Because of improper safety and security offered to passengers, many assault case and accidents have been happened in past.
Folks, Uber is US based company which is facing this problem with its passengers. And to tackle this situation and providing safety to its customers, Uber is going to launch “Audio Recording for Safety” feature in every Uber cars/taxies.
So, are you ready to know more about Uber’s new safety feature? Let’s get started now.
Uber is going to launch automatic “Audio Recording for Safety” feature soon.
You can say Uber is trying a new strategy to make its ride safer by launching audio recording feature in taxies. Uber says, the new feature will promote accountability and help its safety team to take decisive action when needed.
According to Washington post, part of company’s recent push for greater safety, Uber will begin allowing passengers and drivers to record audio through its app during rides in the U.S. The feature will also allow users to opt in and include a warning that rides can be recorded. However, users will not be able to listen to them, but they can share a recording with Uber if they want to report a problem.
Furthermore, before launching the feature in US, Uber will first test this feature in Brazil and Mexico from next month and depending on the result the same might be introduced in the US too.
Major purpose behind the launch of this feature-
Uber has been in news for providing poor services to its passengers. Last year Uber autonomous car accidentally killed a lady. Now also, it’s facing ongoing concern about user’s safety specifically sexual assault. You will be amazed to know that till now 103 Uber drivers have been accused of sexuality assaulting or harassing their passengers and at least, 31 drivers are accused for forcibly touching, false imprisonment, and rape, as per CNN report.
Since that time, Uber has been taking steps to alter safety within its app, like allowing passengers to dial 911 directly from the app and allow riders to report safety issues during the ride. Keeping this safety concern in mind, Uber will launch this new feature which will raise privacy concern that drivers and passengers could have their conversion recorded without their knowledge or consent.
Sachin Kansal, Uber’s head of safety products, told The Post in an interview that the company hopes the feature will give both drivers and passengers the feeling that “the lights are on” when they’re in Uber. “That leads to safer interaction on the platforms,” he added.
How passengers can take advantage of “Audio Recording Feature”?
This new feature will be available to both the parties that are drivers as well as passengers. Drivers can set up the feature to automatically record all rides, while passengers need to activate the feature through app’s safety toolkit before getting into a car. However, both driver and passengers won’t be notified when recording starts. But Uber says they’ll get a general warning when the feature becomes available.
The recording will be encrypted but riders and drivers won’t be able to access the audio themselves, but yes riders can choose to submit the recording to Uber’s customer support team when they report a safety issue.
According to Uber, “When the trip ends, the user will be asked if everything is okay and be able to report a safety incident and submit the audio recording to Uber with a few taps”, “the encrypted audio files is sent to Uber’s customer support agents who will use it to better understand an accident and take the appropriate action”.
What more safety measures can you expect from Uber?
Uber is not only limited to its audio recording feature, but it will also have ‘Video recording’ feature for safety purpose. From summer 2020, Uber will begin to offer some drivers to install cameras in their cars and this feature will also be tested in Brazil and Mexico like audio recording feature. Both these features of Uber are pushed to better protect riders and drivers following reports of sexual assaults, physical assault and robbery.
It’s not a hidden fact that Uber is such a big American company but it is also true that Uber is surrounded by several cases of sexual harassment within its company.
Susan Fowler, former Uber engineer, wrote a viral account of sexism and harassment at the company which led Uber to fire 20 employees. The safety measures which Uber has taken for providing more safety and security to its passengers are appreciating.
Soon these features will be in force and hopefully people will feel more safety while riding in Uber cars in future. This is all about Uber Audio Recording feature.
