The whole world witnessed to what India lost at the time of Chandrayaan-2 mission. Though ISRO attempted to make history in September this year by putting a lander on the Moon with Chandrayaan-2, somehow because of the poor connection with vikram lander, the mission got failed. However, ISRO is ready to try again for its new Moon mission with Chandrayaan-3 project. ISRO is planning to land on Moon again with Chandrayaan-3 next year in November 2020. Yes folks, you read it right! Once again ISRO is doing so hard to land on Moon with its new project Chandrayaan-3. According to recent reports, last Saturday ISRO announced that it has started working on its new moon mission Chandrayaan-3 which will be launched by the end of 2020.
What will be the objective of Chandrayaan-3 mission?
We all are familiar with the object of Chandrayaan-2 project which was to land rover on the south polar reign of Moon and find water and minerals so that scientists get to know whether life is possible on Moon or not.
If I talk about the objective of Chandrayaan-3 project then it is similar like Chandryaan-2 means discovery of water and minerals on the surface of Moon. Also ISRO is re-attempting to show its landing capabilities on moon’s surface which is required for the Lunar Polar Exploration Mission proposed in partnership with Japan for 2024.
In the JAXA report (Japanese Space Agency), the Chandrayaan-3 mission is mainly to collect samples, find prospects for water or ice, and analysis of nearby region.
Let’s read the committee’s report on the Chandryaan-3 project
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) had constituted a high-level committee, headed by S Samantha, Director of Thiruvananthapuram-based Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, and the lead Centre responsible for all launch vehicle programs of ISRO, to prepare a report on the proposed Chandrayaan-3 mission.
As per the sources in the Bengaluru headquarters space agency, “There is a good launch window in November”. “Rover, lander, and landing operations will get more focus this time and whatever deficiencies in the Chandrayaan-2 mission will be corrected,”
A senior ISRO official told PTI, “The panel report is awaited. The committee has been given guidelines to prepare the mission before the end of next year, and that there is a ‘good launch window’ in November”.
Countries collaborating with Chandrayaan-3 project
Guys, after the deep research I got to know that ISRO is going to collaborate its Chandrayaan-3 project with Japanese Space Agency, JAXA, who will help ISRO send a lunar rover to the south pole of the Moon.
As per the previous reports on Chandrayaan-3 moon-craft project, NASA might participate in this project and guide ISRO what they can do more to effectively land rover on moon. However, nothing has finalized whether NASA or Japan will integrate themselves with ISRO in Chandrayaan-3 project or not.
Look at the expected budget of Chandryaan-3
Are you aware of the budget of Chandrayaan-2? Let me tell you, during the Chandrayaan-2 mission, ISRO managed to invest the amount of 978 crore. Around RS 603 crore was to build the orbiter, lander, and rover, while the remaining Rs 375 went to create the GSLV MK III rocket.
If I compare this budget with NASA then it is still cheaper and this India’s space agency has a smaller budget for its new project Chandrayaan-3. At the time of Chandrayaan-2 mission, they were creating something for the first time. However, it got failed because space is hard beast to tame. So even if ISRO gets the small amount of budget this time, they will do or pursue it in order to win back some of the favor or the glory they lost in Chandrayaan-2 project.

Major Changes you will see in Chandrayaan-3 project
ISRO will make few changes in its new project Chandrayaan-3 after seeing the failure of Chandrayaan-2 and will do the needful correction as per the requirement.
So let’s see some changes that will be made in C-3 project below to make it successful:
- – You will see the change in the physical structure of Chandrayaan-3. This time ISRO will use “detachable module” with propulsion systems which will help to put the lander into moon orbit.
- – Earlier, Chandrayaan-2 orbiter continues to function just fine, but the new mission not feature an orbiter of its own.
- – ISRO is also looking to strengthen the lander’s legs. Strengthening the legs will ensure they’re less likely to crumple under the impact a speedy descent. It will help lander avoid the tripping over.
- – This time ISRO is planning to improve their braking system and comm. At the time of Chandrayaan2, everything was right but at the time of landing Vikram lander had been crashed. ISRO will definitely going to strengthen their comm signal or otherwise they will design the Lander with fully automated system to navigate good spot for landing.
In this closing note, I just want to say that ISRO is trying very hard to make its Chandrayaan mission possible. After the failure of Chandrayaan-2 project, ISRO went through a very bad situation that’s why they decided to work on their next project on Chandrayaan-3 with the same purpose that is the discovery of water, ice, and mineral on the south pole of the moon.
